AMI Network Analyst

We are seeking an individual for a Regular position as an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Network Analyst in the Electric Meter Shop business unit of the Customer Service Division.

Job Purpose:

Responsible for on-going reporting, analyzing and monitoring of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) mesh network and gatekeeper performance. Tracks and utilizes network performance data and metrics to make continuous improvement recommendations, creates field activities and assignments for various Field Technicians, and liaisons with both internal and external vendors, partners and stakeholders.

 

Primary Functions:

  • Create and maintain multiple network reports, metrics and dashboards. Facilitate on-going operational communications used by various audiences, including Metering Management Team members. Provide actionable information and describe the current state of AMI mesh network performance.

  • Monitor and report daily on:

    • Gatekeeper loading, endpoint data, trends, repeater performance, mesh network hop levels, Axis Detect network mapping, and identification of other potential AMI network bottlenecks.

    • AMI head-end system Electric Meter health alarms, warnings, and reports, and cross reference with Outage Management and Customer Care and Billing (CC&B) activity. Compose database/spreadsheets and track progress of metrology alarm statuses.

    • WAN communication reports for orphans and non-communicative electric meters, as well as non-communicative repeaters and gatekeepers.

  • Create the necessary field activities in CC&B or other assignment recommendations based on alarms, warnings, and report analysis for Metering, Power Quality, and other Technicians.

  • Liaise with cellular backhaul vendor, AMI vendor support, and various internal teams to implement on-going improvements to the AMI network. Actively participate in weekly vendor support calls relative to on-going issues and opportunities for improvement within the AMI network.

  • Assist with review and implementation of various automation and business process improvement opportunities related to AMI head-end system integration, AMI endpoint maintenance, and configuration templates.

  • Assist the Metering Management Team with coordination of various hardware, software, and firmware deployments related to the AMI network and endpoints.

  • Assist in the performance of studies and regression testing to determine the applicability and adaptation of network hardware, software, and firmware products or releases.

  • Maintain site information in AMI head-end system and/or CIS from desktop audit.

  • Regularly run reports within Wattnet database to remove tested meters from AMI head-end system.

  • Work with internal Communications to ensure OUC fiber and gatekeeper network availability.

  • Work with internal and external customers associated with planned and unplanned AMI system disruptions to minimize impacts to operational areas and customer-facing products/services.

  • Work with Meter Data Management team to set up groups in the Batch Request Tool for strategic meter communications, including proactive pinging processes for storm management.

  • Manage and maintain process for Verizon account activation details. Liaise with Verizon upon request of Meter Technicians.

  • Review and maintain meter configuration records in various inventory and billing systems (i.e. create new meters in CC&B, import marriage files into EAMS, and reconfigure meters to PV bi-directional).

  • Assist with various Meter Shop administrative duties, as available and necessary; including assistance to contractors/customers needing meter equipment or information on meter sets, and management of front counter stock levels.

  • Assist manager and technical trainer to maintain Electric Meter Shop Current Transformer Information sheet process with stake holders.

  • Represent OUC interests when attending software vendor conferences, user forums, and other events that relate to AMI software and operational technologies.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

·         Associate’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field from an accredited college or university

·         The following sets of experience may run concurrently or separately:

o   Two (2) years of experience with intermediate-to-advanced level analysis and data visualizations (i.e. Excel, Tableau, Qlikview, etc.)

o   Two (2) years of experience with hands-on, operational, or administrative experience with an AMI head-end system

·         SQL experience preferred

·         Working knowledge of all, but not limited to, the following:

o   WAN/LAN and Axis Detect network communication reports, metrics, and visualizations;

o   AMI endpoint and gatekeeper alarms, warning, and instrumentation data;

o   Meter configurations (functional programming, firmware, and CIS setup);

o   AMI hardware/software/firmware release notes;

o   Software Applications (i.e. PragmaCAD, Meter Data Management);

·         Familiarity with all, but not limited to the following:

o   Wattnet test records;

o   Marriage file records;

o   Software Applications (i.e. DataRaker, Qlik dashboards);

·         Ability to:

o   Analyze reports;

o   Efficiently recognize trends and recommend appropriate actions;

o   Make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals and to compute rate, ratios, and percentages;

o   Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and use standard office equipment (computer, fax, telephone, copier, etc.).
